Registering Drones Over 55 Pounds with the FAA

Owning a drone over 55 pounds requires registration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This process ensures the safe operation and identification of these larger Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Complete the Aircraft Registration Application (AC Form 8050-1): This form captures general information about your drone. Download and print the form here: Link to AC Form 8050-1

  2. Provide a Bill of Sale (AC Form 8050-2): This form proves ownership of the drone. If you are the original owner, you can find a blank Bill of Sale here: Link to AC Form 8050-2 For purchased drones, obtain a completed Bill of Sale from the seller.

  3. May Require Buyer's Affidavit (Optional): In some cases, the FAA may request a Buyer's Affidavit to verify ownership details. Download the form here: Link to Buyer's Affidavit. However, consult the FAA website for specific requirements in your case.
